A Brief ProfileRajiv Gandhi University is a central University under the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Govt. of India. The University has been converted to a central university by an act of parliament with effect from 9th April, 2007. Rajiv Gandhi University was formerly known as Arunachal University.

The Arunachal University was established by the state government of the state of Arunachal Pradesh, in the year of 1984. In 2005 the same has been renamed as Rajiv Gandhi University.

The university is situated in the green and peaceful location of Rono Hills in Papumpare district of Arunachal Pradesh. It is in the greater Capital Complex area of Itanagar and about 23 kilometers away from the city point of Itanagar, 12 kilometers from the nearest town Naharlagun, and 6 kilometers from the National Highway 52.

The University plays a pivotal role in human resource development in the state of Arunachal in particular and the entire north eastern region and the country in general.
