    A Brief Profile:Distance Education under L.N. Mithila University, Kameshwarnagar Darbhanga was started on 07/02/1998 by the order of vice memo no -P/D 54-139/98 at 07/02/98 the letter issued by the Development Officer, L.N. Mithila University, Kameshwarnagar Darbhanga status that the teaching of Distance Education will be started from the session 1998-99.

    Dr. Harendra Singh Controller of examination, L.N.M.U Darbhanga was appointed Director in charge of the and was assed to formulate and prepare the proposal for starting Distance Education from a session 1998-99 in consultation will the Advisory committee duly approved by the Vice - Chancellor.

    The objectives of the scheme of Distance Education has been laid down by U.G.C under the guidelines 8th plan and in the 9th plan.

    The Lalit Narayan Mithila University was founded in the year 1972 through an ordinance which was later enacted in the legislature state of Bihar. It is situated in the Darbhanga town, which is more popularly known as the Heart of Mithila.

    Mithila, an ancient cultural region of North India lies between the lower ranges of the Himalayas and the Ganges River. The Nepal border cuts across the top fringe of this region. The Gandak and Kosi Rivers are the rough western and eastern boundaries of Mithila.

    The Lalit Narayan Mithila University with its national and international linkages, imparts quality education in the field of Humanities, Social Sciences, Life Sciences, Commerce and Medicine with various Post Graduate and Under Graduate Departments. More than 400 faculty of national and international repute as well, belonging to various fields of science, technology and education are engaged in teaching, research, and consultancy activities.

    The institute is a self contained beautiful, green residential campus of about 200 hectares with all the modern amnesties and support services.
