About the Centre for Distance Education

In 1979 the University introduced Open University Programme along with B.A/B.Com. degree courses through distance education. The OpenUniversity Programme offered an opportunity to enter SNDT's B.A/B.Com degree programmes (Centre Distance Education) through a qualifying test (to those educationally disadvantaged women who were unable to complete the 10 + 2 requirement). The distance education courses been highly appreciated by the working women and housewives who aspire to higher education. Since 1979, the Department of Correspondence Courses and Distance Education, or the Centre of Distance Education as it has been renamed, has been offering these courses, and a few certificate courses, added from time to time, to more than 11 thousand women on an average every year. The Centre is now poised for further growth through new courses and enhanced student support services
