• The university offers Ph.D. in every subject other than Tamil and Telugu and so far about 10 candidates have registered for this degree. The degree is governed by the "Karnataka State Open University Degree of Doctor of Philosophy Regulations: 1997."
   
  

• 1. Those who possess M. Phl degree in the cognate subject of this or any other University.
  (or)
  Those who possess a masters degree in the subject concerned of the KSOU or any other degree recognised as equivalent with a minimum of 55% marks or equivalent grade (relaxable to 50% in the case of SC/ST cadidates and Teachers with 3 Years of experience)
  
  2. They should be working in or have access to facilities for research in the department of studies concerned in the University.

A post-graduate degree of any recognised University in the cognate subject with a minimum of 50% of marks or in graded scale "B" grade.

Duration
The programme starts in December every year. The duration of the programme is 18 months.

Candidates who have passed the two-year pre-university examination conducted by the Pre-University Education Board in Karnataka state or any other examination considered as equivalent thereto or

Candidates from other states who have successfully completed 12 years of schooling (either 10+2 or 11+1 or higher secondary examination), excluding nursery education or

Candidates who have passed the Pre-University examination in vocational courses conducted by the Department of Vocational Education, Government of Karnataka

Admission to the first year of the 3-year B.Com. degree programme is open to-

• Candidates who have passed the 2-year pre-university examination conducted by the Pre-University Education Board in Karnataka state or any other examination considered as equivalent thereto or pre-university education in vocational courses conducted by the Department of Vocational Education, Government of Karnataka.
   
  Admission to the second year B.Com degree :
   

• Candidates who have passed the 3-year diploma in Commercial or Secretarial Practice, conducted by the Department of Technical Education, Government of Karnataka are eligible for admission.
   
  Admission to the third year B.Com degree :
   

• Candidates who have passed the 3-year diploma in Business Administration conducted by the Department of Technical Education, Government of Karnataka, are eligible for admission, but they have to pass in language papers of first and second year B.Com., before completing third year B.Com. degree examination. Such students will have to compulsorily study and pass all the papers.
   
  Admission to Second/Third Year 

• Candidates seeking enrolment in second or third year B.A./B.Com. shall pay the prescribed tuition fee. Details of the payment of fee and challan may be obtained from the study centers.

• Candidates admitted to I-year B.A./B.Com., programme are eligible for promotion to second year even if they fail or have not appeared for any or all of the papers of first year. They are eligible for promotion to third year after completing II year, even if they fail or have not appeared for any or all of the papers of first year and second year
  
  Maximum Duration : 

• The maximum duration for the completion of any programme shall not exceed twice the duration of the particular programme, from the date of admission to the programme (including the year of admission)  

• Candidates who discontinue their studies for more than 4 academic years after joining a programme shall have to seek fresh admission

• 1. Admission in First Semester
• For first semester admission candidate must have (10+2) or Equivalent or 10th Plus 3-year Polytechnic Diploma.

• 2. Admission in Second Semester (Lateral Entry Admission)Eligibility for the second semester admission candidate must have (10+2) or Equivalent or 10th Plus 3-year Polytechnic Diploma plus 6 month IT-Course or 1-Year IT experience.

• 3. Admission in Third Semester (Lateral Entry Admission)Eligibility for IIIrd semester admission candidate must have 3-Year Polytechnic Diploma in IT/C.Sc./E & C or IIndsemester of GNIIT

Admission Qualification

The candidates seeking admission to the BBM Course must have passed Pre-University / Higher Secondary / 10+2 Examination or equivalent of any recognized Board / Council in any discipline.

The candidates who have successfully completed three years of polytechnic diploma from State Technical Board after 10th standard is also eligible take admission in first semester of BBM.

General Entry:
A candidate who has completed 10+2 or its equivalent with Mathematics in (10+2) or a diploma in EE, EC, CS, IT or TC from a recognized technical board can enroll for the 1st semester of Bachelor of Computer Applications (BCA).

Lateral Entry:

Duration 2 years

Regulation I

For candidates seeking admission under this regulation no educational qualification is prescribed. Those who have completed 21 years of age as on the first of July of the academic year of admission are eligible. The duration of all Master's Degree programmes is 2 years and candidates will be admitted to the first year of the programme.

*Affidavits, horoscopes and other unofficial documents will not be accepted as proof of age.

*Once the transfer certificate is produced for date of birth, it shall not be returned to the
candidates. However, fresh T.C. will be issued only to the institutions where the student
continues his/her further education.

Regulation II

A pass in the qualifying examination i.e., B.A./B.Com., for admission to M.A./M.Com. is one of the conditions of eligibility in the case of candidates applying under this Regulation.

• andidates who have passed the 3-year B.A./B.Sc./B.A.(Performing Arts) degree examination of any recognized university, offering English as a major/optional subject at the degree level or an examination of any university considered equivalent thereto
  

• Candidates who have passed the 3-year B.A./B.Sc. /B.Mus. degree examination, offering english as one of the languages or as a minor subject at the degree level, provided they have obtained not less than 50 % in aggregate of the maximum marks in the above language/subject
   

• Candidates who have passed the 4-year B.A.(Ed.) degree examination of the University of Mysore (Regional College scheme) with English as a major/optional subject
  

• Candidates who have passed the 4-year B.Sc.(Ed.) of the University of Mysore (Regional College scheme), provided they have obtained not less than 50 % of marks in English language

• Graduates of any university who have a Postgraduate Diploma in English

• Candidates who have passed the 3-year B.A./B.Sc./B.A.(Performing Arts) degree examination of any recognized university, offering Kannada as a major/optional subject at the degree level or an examination of any university considered equivalent thereto
  

• Candidates who have passed the Kannada Pandit examination conducted by the Government of Karnataka
  

• Candidates who have passed the B.Ed. degree examination of any university, after passing SSLC and also Vidwat Examination of any university

• Candidates who have passed the Hindi Vidwan examination of the Karnataka Government with SSLC and B.Ed. of any university
  

• andidates who have passed the 3-year B.A./B.Sc./B.A.(Performing Arts) degree examination of any recognized university, offering Urdu as a major/optional subject at the degree level, or an examination of any university considered equivalent thereto

• Candidates who have passed the 3-year B.A./B.Sc.,/B.Com./B.A. (Performing Arts) degree examination, offering Urdu as one of the languages or minor subject at the degree level, provided they have obtained not less than 50 % of the maximum marks in the above language/subject

• Candidates who have passed the 3-year B.A./B.Sc.,/B.A.(Performing Arts) degree examination of any recognized university, offering Sanskrit    as a major/optional subject at the degree level, or an examination of any university considered equivalent thereto
  

• Candidates who have passed the 3-year B.A./B.Sc./B.Com. /B.Mus. degree examination, offering Sanskrit as one of the languages or minor subject at the degree level, provided they have obtained not less than 50 % of the maximum marks in the above language /subject
  

• Graduates of any recognized university who have passed at least the Sahitya examination conducted by the Board of Sanskrit Education, Bangalore or any other examination considered equivalent thereto
  

• Graduates of any recognized university who have passed the post Pre-University diploma examination in Sanskrit conducted by any university
  

• Candidates who have passed the Vidwat examination conducted by the Board of Sanskrit Education, Karnataka Government and the post Pre-University diploma examination in Sanskrit of the University of Mysore
  

• Graduates of any university recognized as equivalent thereto who have passed the Kannada Pandit Examination conducted by the Government of Karnataka
  

MBA DEGREE PROGRAMME

Eligibility for Admission

Candidates who have passed the Bachelor's degree of a recognized university (including professional degrees in engineering/technology/medicine /architecture / agriculture / law) with a minimum of 50% of marks prescribed for the degree or

Candidates who have a Master's degree in any subject with 50% marks or

Candidates who have passed the Bachelor's degree with 3 years' experience in supervisory/managerial/professional cadre, as on 1st July of the academic year of admission (The Equivalence Committee may consider any other degree/qualification as equivalent to the degree of Karnataka State Open University)

(*Sponsored candidates shall fulfill any of the above conditions for eligibility)

(*SC/ST/Category-1 candidates will get relaxation in marks upto 5%)
Selection Criteria

Admission to the MBA degree programme is made on the basis of merit, subject to a minimum of 35% marks in the entrance examination

Reservation of seats will be made as per the existing government orders


Entrance Examination

The duration of the entrance examination is 2 hours

The entrance examination will be held in Mysore and Bangalore only

The entrance examination, aimed at measuring the general aptitude and decision making ability of the candidate, will be for 100 marks and will consist of 5 sections of 20 marks each: Proficiency in English Language, Quantitative Ability, General Awareness, Test of Reasoning and Case Analysis

MASTER OF SCIENCE IN INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY M.Sc(IT)

A graduate in any discipline can join the I semester

Those who have completed PGDIT / PGDCA with a graduation can take entry to III rd Semester of M.Sc(IT)

those who are graduates and have also passed a 6-month computer course from any government/approved institute may enter the I semester of M.Sc(IT).

Under the lateral entry scheme, those who have completed B.E.in (C.Sc / I.T); or those with M.C.A or GNIIT or a graducation in any other discipline plus a PGDIT/PGDCA or DOEACC 'A' Certificate course from any government/approved institute may enter the III semester straight.

Candidates who have passed:

Two year pre-university examination with Kannada as one of the languages

Two year pre-university examination with Sanskrit as one of the languages provided their mother tongue is Kannada

Kannada Pandit examination or Sanskrit Vidwat examination conducted by the Government of Karnataka or any other examination considered equivalent thereto

Candidates who have passed:

Two year pre-university examination conducted by the Pre-University Education Board in Karnataka state or any other equivalent or

Certificate examination in Journalism conducted by any other university

Certificate in Kannada for Non-Kannada Speakers

Candidates who have passed SSLC or its equivalent examination and whose mother tongue is not Kannada or those who have not studied Kannada at any level of their education.
